Ironbridge Rowing Club has run a regatta on the River Severn every year (apart from the war years) since its inception in 1870. In recent years this has been a weekend event at the end of June with a 1000 metre course on the Saturday and a 500 metre sprint course on the Sunday (both free start).
Ironbridge Regatta is one of the largest in the UK with typically more than six hundred entries. Although the majority of entries are from local clubs, increasingly the regatta is supported by many of the Thames clubs and a large number of universities and schools as well as overseas crews.
The Club has the advantage of access, with the support of Telford & Wrekin Council, to a large field adjacent to the Clubhouse for camping and parking and to the local river side park for boats and trailers.
The Club prides itself on the organisation and teamwork involved in running this regatta and is rewarded by hearing and receiving praise from visitors every year.
The 2008 regatta took place on Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th June
Many thanks to all those who attended and made the event a great success
