Ironbridge Regattas 2010 – Poster Available

The Regattas will be held on the 26th and 27th June 2010.

The Regattas are to be held on the River Severn downstream between Buildwas & Ironbridge. Racing to commence at 08.30am on both days.

Dear Competitors,

You will see that this year we have opted for a divisional format. This will allow competitors to row or scull in 2 events each day without having the problems of scheduled race clashes.

We have chosen the divisional format as rescheduling races to assist competitors has lead to serious over-running of the regatta in previous years when umpires, officials and

competitors were faced with having to stay in position and be on the course for up to 2 hours after the scheduled time of the last race.

Please note that the rule regarding NO doubling up of competitors and NO sharing of boats, blades, equipment and coxes within a division is absolute. Any competitor requesting to reschedule a race will be refused, so we urge you to remember this when entering.

We are also requesting payment with entries via BROE this year. In previous years we have been let down by competitors who have made entries, not sent payment and simply not turned up. This is disappointing, especially if we have made the effort to run the event, even if it is a straight final, to give rowers in less popular events the chance to race. However, please rest assured that if your entry is not accommodated, you will be refunded as soon as the draw is completed.

We noted last year that some all female crews were entered into open events in error, and would draw your attention to the fact that the BROE system will not alert you to this. Please double check that if you are entering a female crew that you have selected the correct event gender.

We recommend that you enter your crews as early as you can, as we will be restricting the amount of entries we can take and if forced with the difficult decision to cut crews, we will operate on a first come, first served basis.

Finally, we appreciate that the way we have split the events may not suit everyone, but we hope to have provided a good mix of events in each division. We look forward to welcoming you to Ironbridge this year.

Winter Weather!!

Over the last few weeks the club has had to cancel some outings and training sessions due to the bad weather conditions. We do our very best to make sure that everyone is contacted so that they do not come down unnecessarily.

I am glad that training has started again and was pleased to see people starting to come down again last week!!

Next race of the season will be the Worcester Head of the River on the 20th February – so all crews that are hoping to take part need to be training hard for the 6000m course!

Head Season!!

Winter training is certainly under way!! Second lot of ergo 2k test were last week for the women, with the men doing their’s this week (good luck all!) Although Adam has already done his at the British Indoor Rowing Championship earlier today. He came 20th in the Open Men’s category with an impressive time. Well done Adam!!

The Veterans Men eights crew started the winter head season off with an impressive win at Bristol Head. Well done all that took part!!

Wet and windy weather didn’t dampen the spirits at the Northwich Head. We had Mike taking part in his single, Sue and I in the double and the Senior Men’s 4 entered. All did very well with the first heads race of the season for most. Sue and I will never forget waiting an hour and 20 minutes at the top of the river in the wind and the rain for our division to start. We were happy to be finally racing down the course just so we could get dry! But were pleased with a second for our first head race in the double!!

That’s all for now – hope there is lots more racing over the winter!

Winter Training 2009-10

Hey all – yes it’s that time of year again!

Darkness has descended upon us as we try to complete our last few evening outings.

Which means – yes WINTER TRAINING is soon to begin!

From next week there will no longer be evening outings on the river – instead we swap them for the gym and running!

For full winter training nights see posters around the club house and bar!

CIRCUITS – from Wednesday 7th October!

Not to be forgotten is the WEDNESDAY night circuit training which has changed this year due to increased numbers. Junior circuits from 6pm-7pm. Senior circuits from 7pm-8pm. All members welcome – will be lovely to see as many as possible there!!

Pub & Club Regatta 2009 – Saturday 25th April

Ever wanted to try Rowing? You, your friends, colleagues, and fellow drinkers can at the Ironbridge Rowing Club Pub & Club Regatta 2009.
Crews
You will need 4 persons per boat, who have never rowed before.
4 male, or 4 female, or 2 male and 2 female.
Barbecue
Food and drink on sale.
Family and Friends
Welcome to support you for the final racing event.
Virtual Rowing competition
Using the latest state of the art technology!
Evening Party
Free to competitors & coaches. Hot food on sale. £4 entry for friends and
family.
Cost
£40 per crew. That’s just £10 each, for 5 weekly training sessions:
1 on land, 4 on the water. Culminating in a race day.
Coaching Starts
Monday 16th March. Last date for entries is 6th March. Regatta Sat 25th April.
